Placing a deposit on a bird holds the bird for you and makes it unavailable to others.  A 25% deposit of the selling amount is required to hold a bird.  This is a non-refundable deposit.  If the bird is not purchased by the time it is weaned and ready to be placed in a new home the deposit is forfeited.  If I am unable to sell the bird then I do refund the deposit.
